Foodie heaven at The Manchester Picnic

21 August 2014

The Manchester Picnic is returning this August (29th – 31st) to entertain families and foodies in Piccadilly Gardens. The gourmet garden party saw 25,000 visitors in 2013 and now in its fifth year, the much-loved family food festival will host a variety of pop-up picnic traders, alongside live music, games and entertainment.

A host of tasty traders have been announced, bringing together the region’s highest quality of street food from veggie delights to meaty BBQs and Italian style pizza’s to Japanese sushi.

Each day, from 11am – 6pm, street food experts will serve up an array of culinary dishes from around the world. Look out for authentic Indian street food, known as Chaat from Chaat Cart,Mediterranean delights from Papa G’s and a taste of Spain from Choccy Churros.

Aarti Ormsby from Chaat Cart said: "We can't wait for The Manchester Picnic this year. It is a privilege to be part of such a fun and vibrant event in our home town. The event has something for everyone, including families and young people. The organisers have put a lot of thought behind every aspect of the Picnic. We are really looking forward to making lots of Indian street food and feeding lots of families.”

Street food favourites, Piggie Smalls will be on hand with smoked hot dogs & BBQ pulled pork, while there is a twist on traditional fish and chips from Fish& with a choice of flavoured batters from lemon and chilli to sea salt and cracked black pepper.

American style Cantina Latina will be making its debut at The Manchester Picnic this year while China Town’s Wasabi are returning for a fifth year with a tantalizing selection of sushi and noodles.

Mexican-inspired Chiquito, Cowboy Burgers and Fire and Salt BBQ will also be serving up a range of savoury dishes.

For the sweet-toothed, Ginger’s Emporium will serve up its award-winning ice-cream and freshly baked treats from Martin’s Craft Bakery, Manchester’s number one craft bakers, will ensure that all tastes are catered for.

Then, wash it all down with a choice of thirst quenching beverages from Matilda’s, offering a range of mouth-watering iced drinks. Keep an eye out for Lulabelles’ pink caravan, which will be parking up to deliver freshly brewed teas and coffees.

Organised by the Piccadilly Partnership and CityCo, The Manchester Picnic has become a firm highlight of the city centre summer calendar. This year’s theme is ‘Play’ to celebrate the recent opening of the new children’s playground near the Victoria Memorial in Piccadilly Gardens.

Alexandra King, Piccadilly Partnership Director for CityCo said: “Last year, the street food concept was a real highlight of the picnic so we’re bringing it back again this year with an even bigger variety of food to mark the event’s fifth year. An assortment of exceptional food traders have been lined up alongside family games and entertainment to tie in with this year’s theme of play.”
