Join businesses to help fight food poverty -- A week of action in Greater Manchester

11 July 2014

Tackling Food Poverty Together is a week of action; a week to raise awareness of the issues and a week to focus on solutions. 13-19 October 2014.

Everyone can make a difference and that individuals, communities and businesses across Greater Manchester can work together to help tackle food poverty.

This week of action has been started by the Greater Manchester Food Poverty Alliance, following an event held last year (hosted by Kellogg's in partnership with the Manchester Evening News) to uncover ways businesses and individuals can help tackle the issue of food poverty in Greater Manchester.

Following the event Kellogg's brought together a number of interested individuals and organisations including Kellogg's, Eversheds, Eileen Fairhurst (representing the Greater Manchester Poverty Commission), Elaine Johnson (representing Trafford Housing Trust) and the Greater Manchester Poverty Commission, Manchester Food Futures, Shoosmiths, The Wellbeing Farm, Real Food Wythenshawe, Manchester Food and Drink Festival and Kate Green MP.

The group discussed some of the big ideas from the session and how best to bring them together to make a difference. It was decided that Greater Manchester should have a week of action where individuals and businesses could actively help tackle some of the issues around food poverty.

The week will be an opportunity to focus people's minds, but we hope that the work and action undertaken will go on all year round.
