Menu Relief Evening At Aumbry

13 March 2013

AUMBRY has released details of its Menu Relief evening in support of chef-proprietor  Mary-Ellen McTague’s appearance on BBC’s Great British Menu.

Mary Ellen lost out in the north west heat to Aiden Byrne, but her competition food revealed all the invention that won Prestwich-based Aumbry restaurant of the year in the 2012 Manchester Food and Drink Awards.

Her challenge on the Great British Menu was “to create a dazzling performance on a plate, food that is both gastronomic and witty”.

Tickets are on sale now for the Red Nose Day meal (Friday, March 15) where guests can enjoy Mary Ellen’s final menu featured on the programme. All proceeds will go towards Comic Relief.

Tickets can be bought through Aumbry directly with the last remaining places auctioned for charity through their eBay site. Click on this link:

Aumbry’s Menu Relief menu will be:

Starter: Baked Bean Bath Tub

Fish: Northern Sole

Mains: Milk Fed Goat with Pearl Barley, Cauliflower & Fresh Goat Curds

Dessert: Chamomile Lawn

Mary Ellen said; “The Great British Menu has become something of an institution over the last few years and we were delighted to be asked to take part in the latest series. Comic Relief is such a fantastic charity and Menu Relief at the restaurant will be a brilliant evening. Hopefully the series will help to raise a lot of money for a very worthy cause.”

Taste of Manchester recently visited Aumbry’s intimate dining room in converted cottage just off the busy A56 in Prestwich to check out the current menu, which combines dishes inspired by historical recipes with cutting edge cooking technologies.

Stand-out dishes on Mary Ellen and husband Laurence Tottingham’s tasting menus sauteed snails, fresh curd cheese rolled in hay ash with malt loaf and birch; beetroot and chocolate cakes with hazelnut, caraway and bee pollen; amazing venison and, of course, their signature dish of a Bury Black Pudding Scotch Egg with mushroom relish and home-made tomato ketchup.

From an equally adventurous wine list, the biodynamic Austrian pinot noir from Meinklang is a snip at £37.
