Christmas has begun in Manchester with the return of the ice skating rink and all kinds of festive fun. It has just been announced that the North Pole Bar is also moving to Spinningfields and by the sound of it, the whole area will be transformed into a winter wonderland.
The ice rink and North Pole Bar open on November 12 so there's plenty of time for falling over - whichever activity you undertake. A magical carousel ride completes the winter wonderland scene.
Councillor Pat Karney, the council’s city centre chief, said: "The outdoor ice rink brings a glamorous New York style atmosphere to the city. The rink has become one of Manchester's most popular Christmas attractions and the addition of the North Pole bar is just another reason why Spinningfields is one of the best places to visit over the festive season.
"It's the ideal place for families and friends to let their hair down or unwind after a busy day Christmas shopping and shows yet again why Manchester is the UK's top Christmas city."
Usually the streets around Albert Square and St Ann's Square are absolutely rammed with gluhwein-hunting crowds. Hopefully by having events at Spinningfields it will thin out the Christmas crush out a bit, and make it feel like a city-wide celebration.
Last year saw the launch of the North Pole Bar, which was sat under Urbis, from events gurus Ear To The Ground. With upside-down Christmas trees and some tasty warm cocktails, Manchester welcomed it with open arms.
So let's welcome it back, mine's a Winter Crumble.
