Federal coffee house to open a second outlet – on Deansgate

5 April 2019

A WEEK to go to the opening of a second Federal, bringing their gorgeous pastel de natas to Deansgate. The jury’s out on which is the best Manc version of these Portuguese custard tarts – theirs or Canto’s up in Ancoats. What is certain this new arrival at No.194 on the corner with Quay Street on Friday, April 12 is a major boost to the city centre coffee and brunch scene.

The tarts are just some of the treats making the transition from the popular Nicholas Croft original off Shudehill.

Owners Claudio and Emily Ribeiro (pictured below) opened that in 2014 and it has established a reputation for its Antipodean-influenced breakfast and all-day brunches until 6pm. The tarts are a nod to Claudio’s Portuguese roots.

There’s the same attention to detail in their coffee selection  the ‘Hodson’ blend from New Zealand roasters, Ozone. Perfect with their signature banana bread, which will definitely feature at the 35-cover Deansgate venue. ToM can’t wait.
