Happy birthday to Runaway (no longer raising the roof!)

23 May 2019 by Neil Sowerby

RUNAWAY success is a cliche but you have to hand it to the brewery of that name, this weekend (May 25 and 26) celebrating their fifth birthday at their taproom in Dantzic Street.

Mark Welsby and his team have certainly mede their mark (sic) in those five years, hosting an array of events on their mezzanine floor and spawning community collaborations.

Most recently they have run the rooftop terrace bar at new arrival Honest Burgers in Manchester Hall as well as brewing their in-house pale ale. That six week pop-up ceases this weekend as the London-based chain look to change its direction.

“We’ve had a great time there but it was stretching us a bit, so we move on – plus we’re still brewing the beer for them,” Mark told us.

He’s busy enough with a packed programme for the two ays of festivities. Obviously there’ll be a full range of Runaway pours on offer including, unusually, some cask, plus a guest beer bar curated by the Independent Salford Beer Festival. Plus street food, cider guest DJs, guided tastings and four ticketed talks/events (book via Eventbrite).

Runway have also brewed five collab beers for the occasion – a big IPA with James Campbell, a Mai Bock with Donzoko, a Dandelion Saison with Gibberish, a Citrus Sour with Hawksmoor and and an Imperial Stout with Squawk.

Runaway Brewery 5th Birthday Celebration, Unit 4, Millgate, Dantzic Street, M4 4JW, Manchester.  Sat, May 25, 12pm-11pm; Sun, May 25, 12pm-9pm.
