HELLO GUDETAMA! EGGSTRA SPECIAL MENU IS A SHORYU RAMEN CRACKER

14 March 2019 by Neil Sowerby

EGGS are not just for Easter at Shoryu Ramen, but most of April is. From the 1st to the 21st the Piccadilly-based noodles in broth specialists are welcoming back Gudetama, one of Japan’s most beloved characters with an exclusive egg-themed pop-up set menu.

For those of you not steeped in Japanese culture the eggstra-ordinary Gudetama is a laid-back friend of Hello Kitty. For £24 a head you can have three courses celebrating his existence, including a ramen dish (naturally), a drink, and a limited edition Shoryu x Creighton’s Gudetama chocolate bar, handmade in the UK by a mother-daughter duo.

For starters, feast on yellow Gudetama coloured Shoryu Buns – choose from Char Siu BBQ pork belly, chicken karaage or pumpkin croquette, marked by an added Gudetama flag.

Move through to the mains and choose from the signature Shoryu Ganso Tonkotsu ramen with added fried shallot and Gudetama egg, Miso Wafu Chicken with unique tonyu soy milk, white miso, shiitake mushroom and konbu soy broth, chicken karaage and Gudetama egg. Veggie option is the White Natural ramen featuring miso, konbu & shiitake broth, garnished with a Gudetama egg on the side.

All followed by Mochi Ice Cream; choose from the Mini Yuzu, Matcha or Salted Caramel Chocolate flavours, all served in a Gudetama cup. There’s a choice of three drinks – mango iced oolong tea, Calpico, a milk-based soft drink or Mojito Loves Calpico, mixed with mint and lime – all served in a reusable Gudetama plastic cup.

Plus anyone trying the Gudetama menu can take part in a special competition. Guests will be invited to take a selfie with Gudetama and post on social with the hashtag #shoryugudetama, with four winners bagging a huge Gudetama plush toy and Creighton’s chocolate bundle. Might pass on that treat.
