Michelin chefs cook for charity – Masterpiece Dinner back at the Whitworth

25 September 2017 by Neil Sowerby

FOLLOWING the fantastic success of Action Against Hunger’s first Masterpiece Dinner in Manchester last year, which raised an incredible £28,000, the event returns again at The Whitworth on Wednesday, October 25 with a stellar line-up in the kitchens.

Four highly regarded chefs will each create a course for this one of a kind dining experience, starting with Phil Howard, chef/owner of Elystan Street (starter), Paul Heathcote (first course), then Michael Wignall, exec head chef at Gidleigh Park (second course) and Lisa Goodwin-Allen, exec head chef at Northcote (dessert), both pictured below. In addition, Richard Brown from Beastro, will be sous chef for the evening.

The four course meal will be accompanied with Champagne Taittinger, signature Sipsmith cocktails, fine wine, and even finer art.

That’s because the event is supported by Buy Art Fair and will be hosted by its CEO, Thom Hetherington. Some 90 folk are expecte to attend, paying a minimum ticket donation of £200 each, the aim to top the £35,000 mark to help Action Against Hunger’s work saving the lives of malnourished children.

This unique dining experience will include live and silent auctions with Auctioneer Tom Best from Christie’s, with some highly collectible prizes on offer including exclusive original art works from some of the world's most respected artists, as well as enviable gastronomical breaks and other luxury prizes.

Caroline Dyer, fundraising campaign manager from Action Against Hunger, said; “We are so excited that the Masterpiece Dinner is returning to the beautiful Whitworth Gallery. This is going to be a really special night bringing together some of the greatest Michelin-starred chefs in Manchester .”

This year, the support makes even more of a difference as every single pound raised will be doubled by the UK Government. All matched funds will go towards providing mothers and children in Senegal with the nutrition and support they need to be healthy as part of #healthymumshealthykids.

Meanwhile, until the the end of October, a host of Manchester restaurants, including Hawksmoor, Lunya and The Refuge, are supporting Action Against Hunger by giving customers the opportunity to add a small donation to their bill or offering certain dishes where a percentage of the cost goes to the same Healthy Mums Healthy Kids appeal.

Diners also have the chance to win dinner for two at a top restaurant every month for a year by following @ACF_UK on Twitter or Instagram and sharing a photo of the restaurant they are dining at with the hashtag #LoveFoodGiveFood.
