Plant-based aces Food Me! join the pop-up street food parade at Hatch

7 September 2018 by Neil Sowerby

GETTING a little late in the year for al fresco fun. Think again if you are heading down to Hatch to sample the Oxford Road pop-up hub’s action-packed September programme. There’s an ample supply of blankets and heaters to ward off an nip in the air.

So you’re sorted, but what to take in? The full line-up, featuring live music, DJs and open mic you’ll find on their website. Foodwise it’s never dull with fresh rotation of street food traders in the containers.

One fascinating newcomer is vegan and plant based specialists Food Me! With an emphasis on sourcing locally and organically they’re promising autumn-friendly dishes – soups and big, autumn couscous and lentil chilli, washed down with pressed juices such as ‘Dance to the Beet’ and ‘Macalicious’ blended smoothies. Following on from Mama Z’s BYOC (bring your own container) offer, Food Me will also be offering discounts to people who do just that.

Vegan is still big, so on Saturday, February 15, the Hatch street food traders will be hosting  a Vegan Takeover putting on special plant based menus for one day only. Salford based social enterprise Cowherd will provide their raw, cold-pressed juices.

The following street food heroes remain at Hatch…
Fabulous Fillipino with Mama Z: Her authentic Fillipino menu includes meat and vegan options such as aubergine sisig, chicken adobo and jackfruit adobo pops.

T’Arricrii: Sicilian brothers Riccardo and Romeo specialise in arancini with meat, fish and veggie options, cannolos and juices made with fruits from their native island.

Woks Cluckin: These Pan-Asian street food, purveyors fire up their wok daily to create dishes such as their signature dish, Korean fried chicken with kimchi.
