Ready and Abel –Miss Jessie Heywood’s Remarkable Gin and Food Emporium

20 February 2019

WE’VE never quite got the Abel Heywood as a contemporary take on the pub or as a boutique hotel. It has always felt like Hydes’ quest for NQ credibility in times of change for traditional breweries.

Latest post-modern tweak – just when rum is being trumpeted as ‘the new gin’ – is the first floor arrival (from Friday, March 8) of Miss Jessie Heywood’s Remarkable Gin and Food Emporium, featuring 70 gins, accompanied by garnishes from across the world. With appropriate, global spice influences on the food menu, too.

The whole concept is inspired by the career of Jessie, daughter of 19th century mayor and publsher Abel, who the venue is named after. She travelled the world and lived in New Zealand for a time, shipping home to Manchester seed specimens and botanicals.

Miss Jessie Heywood’s Remarkable Gin and Food Emporium, Abel Heywood, 38 Turner Street, Northern Quarter Manchester M4 1DZ, Tel: 0161 819 1441.
