• Rosso the red-nosed reindeer? If only Santa could deliver such delicious Italian food

Rosso the red-nosed reindeer? If only Santa could deliver such delicious Italian food

IT’s that time of the year when regional news bulletins home in on absurdly over-the top Christmas decorations. Cut from the studio to pebbled-dashed semis more illuminated than Las Vegas with proud owners up on ladders adding extra inflatable Santas and neon reindeer.

Gaze up to the top of King Street in Manchester City Centre and be similarly dazzled. Italian restaurant Rosso sure knows how to celebrate the season, outblinging some of the celebs it is traditionally associated with.

Actually, since most of the outside lights are snowstorm white, the giant golden bow a quirky seasonal gift and the three billion baubles inside are tastefully pastel, ToM has no problems.  And, we won’t be shouting ‘Humbug’ at the menu on the evidence of a recent visit.

Stand-outs were Burrata al Tartufo (truffle-infused cheese with focaccia, £12), Capesanto (seared fresh scallops with garlic, chilli and tomato, £16), Carne Salada (cured salt beef with wild rocket and 36 month aged Parmesan, £16). See the full menu here plus their festive menus, which start from just £25pp for three courses.
