SALVI’S LAUNCH ‘FLORENCE PIZZA’ TO RAISE MONEY FOR LOCAL GIRL WITH GM1

20 February 2017

SALVI’S is launching a news addition to their menu, The Florence Pizza, which is a classic ‘Fiorentina’ pizza with a tomato base and topped with fresh mozzarella, friarielli (wild broccoli) and finished off with an egg cracked in the centre.

This pizza is to support best friends of Salvi’s owners, who recently received the news that their three-year-old, Florence, had been diagnosed with GM1, a rare genetic condition which currently has no cure. All profits from the sale of the Florence Pizza will be donated to the ‘Cure for Florence’ campaign.

This will go towards to further research into finding a cure for GM1, increase awareness about this condition and give Florence the best quality of life possible. They have already raised over £2,000 on their just giving page, ‘Cure For Florence’ and hope to raise even more through the sale of the ‘Florence Pizza’. Customers will be able to order the pizza from Sunday, February 19.

Florence, from Stalybridge, was diagnosed with GM1 in December 2016. It is a regressive condition which means she will lose all the motor skills she now has, resulting in loss of ability to walk, talk and swallow. The condition is life limiting and this diagnosis has turned the family’s life upside down. GM1 is a is an inherited disorder that progressively destroys nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, and is estimated to occur in 1 in 100,000 to 200,000 newborns.

Salvi’s owner Maurizio Cecco said: “We were devastated when we found out the news about Florence’s diagnosis, we can’t imagine what the family are going through. Now we want to do everything we can to ensure that more people know about this condition and most importantly, help Florence have a happy childhood.

“We’ll have more going on over the next few months, including a fundraising event at Salvi’s so anything people can do to help would be fantastic.”
