Tasting notes from Stuart Maconie, writer and broadcaster

18 May 2018

My favourite place to eat out in Manchester is… OMG that is hard. I love so many places. El Rincon (real Manchester legend) Punjab on The Curry Mile (best South Indian in Manchester, great dhosa), Either East Is East, Happy Seasons in China Town before Bridgewater Hall concerts (If you can get in), Little Yang Sing….

The best dish I’ve eaten in Manchester recently is… The rabbit ravioli in Pasta Factory in the Northern Quarter

My favourite dining room in Manchester is… Upstairs at Hawksmoor. I’m a sucker for old school New York style steakhouse vibe; leather booths, dark polished wood.

My favourite lunch spot in Manchester is… The Portico Library after a morning writing. Mushy peas from Piazza de Stan Ogden at MediaCity. The curry cafés in the Northern Quarter.

If I had to eat only on thing for the rest of my days it would be… The lamb ghosh dupiaza at East Is East. I can taste it now.

Stuart is presenting An Audience with Stuart Maconie at the Waterside arts centre, Sale at 7.30pm on Wednesday, May 23, reading from his latest book, ‘Jarrow: Road to the Deep South’. £15, conc £13. Book tickets here
