OK, so the Howl’oween at Hatch on October 31 is a one-off (we hope it’s a howling success), but it is symptomatic of how dog-friendly Manchester’s modern food and drink scene is. Take new St Peter’s Square bar The Anthologist. It’s big and glossy but the canine giveaway if the water bowl and box of treats at the entrance.

Now they have launched Yappy Hour, a weekly pop-up “dog café” where pups can sip pawsecco and dog beer while owners indulge in the real stuff (with a 15 per cent discount to boot).

The Anthologist said: “With the rise of things like cat cafés, we thought it was about time that the city centre got a regular dog-focused alternative. We understand that it can be a real struggle for owners to find nice places to unwind where their dogs are welcome too, so we’d like to throw our doors open to Manchester’s furry friends and make them feel right at home.”

Book your place for this Sunday by emailing [email protected], quoting “Yappy Hour”.
