'Tis the season to be merrily busy in the Northern Quarter

17 November 2017

THE Northern Quarter’s busy in the run-up to Christmas. A new bar has opened, surprise, surprise. The Patron, on the corner of Hilton Street and Oldham Street is the final piece in the £1 million makeover of the Hilton Chambers building, and offers a modish box-ticking mix of craft beers, cocktails and a menu combining True Brit Sunday roasts and Middle Eastern fusion small plates.

There’s more of an air of mystery about The Convenience Store, which will occupy the current Keko Moku (flaming cocktails a speciality, above) site on High Street from November 30. The Almost Famous crowd, which launched it as the city’s first tiki bar back in 2009 spawning Home Sweet Home and Luck, Lust Liquor and Burn, are projecting the new bar as a shoppy homage to sugary snacks and 80s Americana and to celebrate its arrival are giving away a prize of a late night lock-in with a £1,000 bar tab. ToM, no great lover of sugary snacks, is popping along to Evelyn’s next week to check out their exciting new menu. That’s not all that’s afoot at the Tib Street eaterie. Early next month they are opening in the basement (ironically once a convenience store) a new members lounge called The Daisy. Members will be able sign-in up to three people at a time with complimentary hot drinks. Access will be through Evelyn’s in the Smithfield Building. To become a member follow the official private instagram link. Once your request has been accepted by the committee a yearly membership fee of £100 applies.
