This vegetarian restaurant from a local entrepreneur offers upmarket cuisine for the meat-free palate. Perhaps inspired in part by high-end veggie restaurants like Terre a Terre in Brighton, the cooking at this outlet is fresh and imaginative with little reliance of the veggie staples of goats cheese, risotto or pine nuts. Curries can be a bit of a let down, so go for the house specials which include cider-battered halloumi or tofu fish and hand-cut chips with minted mushy peas or baked gnocchi in a rich tomato and mascarpone sauce with mozzerella. The likes of sweet potato mustard rarebit with watercress salad and herbs or wild mushroom and garlic pate with toast and tarragon oil make ideal appetite whetters, while desserts such as chocolate torte are another strength. Many dishes come gently infused with herbs (thyme custard, for example) and theres a very reasonable wine list.
