Tapas are the ultimate grazing of choice and Spinningfields newcomer Iberica is serving up some of the most succulent small plates around. You won’t find better olive oil and bread in the city than in this extravagntly fitted-out celebration of all things Spanish. Splash out on their £22 Trío of Ibéricos, featuring all three of their signature ham from separate regions – Cordoba, Extremedura and, king of ‘em all Jabugo in Huelva. From pure bred free range porkers, cured for years, carved to order with what looks like a small sword, the streaks of sweet fat a melting world away from the flaccid lardy stuff in the packets. Iberica’s take on gazpacho (£4 a shot glass) is a refreshing chilled combo of red berries, beetroot and blitzed anchovies – a sort of superior smoothie. Padron peppers (£6) and octopus a la Gallega (Galician style) are lovely, too, but pick of the ‘pops is fried chorizo lollipops, served with a pear alioli sauce (£5) – unusual and really quite wonderful. Dip into the fab wine list, with good choices by the glass, and you feel you are in Spainingfields!
