Teacup and Cakes is one of the busiest places in town. Co-owned by Manchester DJ and tea fanatic, Mr Scruff, it’s a thriving, lively hub of social interaction - and a particular draw for tea lovers. The bespoke menu includes many of Mr Scruff’s own blends and we particularly love the Mint and Chilli and English Breakfast. Head-sized scones are baked in house, there’s a satisfying breakfast selection and the cakes live up to their Instagram fame. We particularly like the Brokeback Battenberg: a massive slab of a beast, coloured in seven vibrant layers and enrobed in soft, white icing. A cream tea of scones layered with fruit, clotted cream, preserve is £6.80,  Teacup’s special afternoon tea, meanwhile is £14 or £20 with bubbles and savoury and sweet extras. They’re currently serving Proustian madeleines, baked to order, too.
