Make your own artisan bread with new Cracking Good Food classes

25 March 2014

Cracking Good Food take artisan breadmaking to North Manchester on 7 June, with an all-day (10am-4pm, £95) course at Prestwich Arts College. Prestwich is striving to become a sustainable town: the college is having allotments built by Groundworks, Incredible Edible have taken off and member-owned grocery Village Greens Community Co-op opens soon - so it's an ideal spot for those interested in ethical eating.

For those in south Manchester, Our Daily Bread classes run on 10 May, 12 July, 20 September and 8 November (10am-4pm, £95) in Whalley Range while Cracking Good Food’s Breaking Bread half-day courses continue to run at Chorlton High School (17 May, 14 June, 13 September and 11 October, 10am-2pm, £55), along with a special Festive Bread session on 22 November (10am-2pm, £55). To keep ethical credentials high, all ingredients are bought locally at Unicorn Co-operative Grocery and other independent Chorlton shops.

Expert advice

Cracking Good Food’s resident breadmaking expert Rob Tomlinson says: “Our workshops are totally hands-on and participants come away with the knowledge of how to make organic loaves, aromatic focaccia with red onion, rosemary, olives and sundried tomatoes, rye bread, delicious garlic naans, and even the perfect pizza base. Who’d believe that with just four ingredients – flour, yeast, water, salt – there could be so many permutations? The battle to restore decent bread to its proper place is gathering momentum. Join us!”

Courses include a new 26-page booklet, Best Thing Since Sliced Bread, full of information, tips and recipes.
