A 5-star wrap? Beef and trimmings in a flattened pud

13 November 2017 by Neil Sowerby

WHAT we get up to in the sanctuary of our own home sometimes shouldn’t always see the light of day. The jury’s out on the Yorkshire Pudding Wrap for this increasingly plant-based member of the ToM team.

Until now it’s been the guilty secret of Lowry Hotel head chef Andrew Green – a treat he has been serving up to friends and family for years. Now this beef in flattened batter twist on the trad roast is in the public domain courtesy of a social media mention, which has set the gravy train rolling straight to a place on the five-star Salford hotel’s Sunday menu.

Oh and keeping it seasonal, a special festive turkey will featured every Sabbath through December.

Unrepentant carnivore Green (above) enthuses: “It is no wonder the Yorkshire pudding wrap is such a sensation – it basically consists of a large flattened Yorkshire pudding, wrapped around carved meat plus all your roast dinner favourites and then smothered in thick gravy. It is the ultimate comfort food.”

It joins a calorific pantheon that includes the Manchester Egg and the Manchester Kebab. Vegans look away now.
