Albert’s Schloss – hipster beer and pretzel hall from Mars

19 August 2015

IT has been a long time, so Taste of Manchester is unsure if Brannigan’s dress policy excluded lederhosen or whether ‘Bohemian pleasure’ was on the cards for party animals at the legendary Peter Street fun palace, which was closed by parent company, Cougar Leisure (sic) in 2011.

Since then the whole building, the 1910 Albert Hall, has been sensationally reinvigorated as a concert venue by the Trof group. For all this, the ground floor, which housed Brannigan’s, has remained something of a dead space. Come October, though, it is being relaunched at a cost of £3.5m as Albert’s Schloss, a bar/restautant devoted to all things Germanic (not to be confused with quite separate Albert’s Shed, which leans towards the Italian).

Hence the boarding currently outside the Albert Hall, promising a 'Bohemian Pleasure Palace'. Confusingly suggesting all things Czech! Whatever, we are promised live entertainment (hopefully without oompah bands) plus Bavarian, Czech and Alpine-influenced food, with an in-house bakery producing fresh bread, pretzels, pastries and puddings, washed down with pilsner and schnapps blended on site.

The new company behind the project is called Mission Mars, Trof teaming up with the folk from Revolution. They already run Revolucion de Cuba further down Peter Street, which sounds increasingly like the street to get schlossed on again!
