Book ahead now for 2019 Rum and Lager Festivals

13 December 2018 by Neil Sowerby

RUM

WHEN the first Manchester Rum Festival took place in 2017 Altrincham’s Marigot Bay Bar and Café was a future dream for organiser Dave Marsland. But for 2019 this new venture by the rum guru will be hosting the festival shop at the atmpspheric Brickworks events space under the Barton Arcade.

Tickets are now on sale for the Saturday, June 8 grogathon and we suggest you take the plunge sooner rather than later. The two previous festivals sold out months in advance.

Understandably the festival has expanded this year to include both afternoon and evening sessions (noon-5pm or 6-11pm) an added new seminar room with talks from rum distillers and experts.

Further good news: ticket prices have been frozen at £20. Event sponsors include a Revolución de Cuba, as the festival bar supporter, offering a variety of rum cocktails, while Alston Bar and Beef return as one of the festival’s food vendors..

Saturday June 8, 2019 Manchester Rum Festival 2019, Brickworks, Barton Arcade, 48 Barton Square, Manchester, M3 2BH. noon-5pm, 6-11pm. £20. Tickets will be required for entry into the main festival, with all samples included. Main cocktail bar and food not included within the price. 21+. Book here

LAGER

The Manchester Union Lager project has been fermenting away slowly (‘Remember we drank it for you first’) but next April at the We Are Lager Festival they’ll be showcasing their end product alongside other premium examples of this misunderstood tipple (ie not the bland mainstream rip-offs).

Manchester’s new lager-only brewery, has invited fellow producers from around the world to pour their amber nectar at the Upper Campfield Market (Thursday 4th-Sunday 7th)

Breweries booked include Lost & Grounded, Hacker Pschorr, Kona Brewing Co, Lervig, Paulaner, Donzoko, Giepel Brewing, Braybrooke Beer Co, 71 Brewing and Manchester’s own Cloudwater.

No oomph bands either. Long running club night Funkademia are curating the music and DJ sets hve been confirmed from Everything Everything, Luke Unabomber (Electric Chair),  Girls on Film, Take Me To Church and Hattie Pearson.

Thursday-Sunday, April 4-7.  4 – Sun 7 Apr, Upper Campfield Market, Manchester, M3 4NN. £8.80-£11, all sessions £33 inc booking fee. Book here
