CELEBRATE Daiquiri Week and HEMINGWAY’S BIRTHDAY AT roc & rye

18 July 2017

NEWLY opened craft coffee and cocktail bar Roc & Rye will be celebrating Hemingway’s birthday in style with their friends at Bacardi, by immersing themselves in Cuban cocktail culture.

This includes a week of special events along with four remarkable reincarnations of Ernst Hemingway’s favourite tipple The Daiquiri, whose ‘National Day’ is on July 19).

Roc & Rye will continue the celebrations until Monday July 24 with a programme of dance nights with live DJs, Daiquiri fountains tasting of sunshine and beaches… and, of course, lashings rum-based cocktails.

There will be two scheduled events during the Daiquiri week including a Daiquiri Master Class and a Daiquiri Street Party, paying homage to this classic cocktail created over 100 years ago by an American mining engineer named Jennings Cox.

Working in the Cuban coast village of Daiquiri and needing something to motivate the workforce before a hard day during hot months, he utilised Cuba’s three great natural resources – limes, sugar and Bacardi.

Among the Roc & Rye offerings will be the original Hemingway Daiquiri, adding Maraschino instead of granulated sugar.

The Daiquiri Master Class will be held on Wednesday July 19, where cocktail lovers are invited to watch, taste and learn the secrets of rum based cocktails. This guided rum tour is available from £40 per guest and includes four cocktails (Classic Daiquiri, Daw To The Dacha, Hemingway Daiquiri and Fresh Fraise Freeze), four shots of rum and light bites to complement the experience. Celebrations at the opulent venue will continue with a Daiquiri Street Party on Thursday 20th from 6pm.
