CORD TO BE NYQ – COCKTAIL BAR AND INTIMATE CELLAR MUSIC VIBE

14 March 2018 by Neil Sowerby

IT seems to have becoming a trend, rescuing and revamping tired Northern Quarter pioneer venues. First the Bay Horse, a beautifully transformed space and some seriously good pub food; then news of Odd across Thomas Street, expected to reopen by the end of April as the city’s first totally vegan bar/kitchen, Folk & Soul

Now it’s the turn of Cord on Dorsey Street mothballed for quite a while but now in the experienced hands of Ben Spier and Keith Patterson (below), who are relaunching the bar towards the end of April as NYQ.

A distinct homage to early 1980s New York, the ground floor will host a laid-back cocktail lounge curated by bartender Ben Scorah. Then down below the distinctive basement has been stripped back for DJs to recreate that Big Apple 80s music vibe.

Speaking about the new venture, Spier said: “NYQ will complement the thriving cocktail bar scene in the Northern Quarter and become a place where people can enjoy a good night out, good drinks and get down on the dance floor.”

NYQ, 8 Dorsey St, Manchester M4 1LU.
