Cork of the North to open a second branch – in Heaton Moor

8 June 2018 by Neil Sowerby

WELL, it certainly makes a change from another craft beer bar launching. Welcome then to the imminent arrival of “the biggest and best wine shop and wine bar that Manchester and Cheshire has ever seen.”

A big claim but then Marc Hough is used to the spotlight as New Order’s warm-up DJ as well as owner of Cork of the North in Sale. Now there’s a Cork 2 set to open in Heaton Moor in July in a former school and sports wear shop.

Not quite the history of the Northenden Road original, which boasts a plaque to Sale playwright Robert Bolt (Man For All Seasons, Lawrence of Arabia, Dr Zhivago), who was born in the premises in 1924.

The new place will stock 500 different wines to drink in or take away; the biggest range of organic and vegan wines in the North; a huge range of speciality gins and spirits, beers and ciders, many produced locally plus a small plates menu, regular tasting events and free local delivery for all wines and spirits.

The Sale interior (below) was a mite cramped; this one won’t be and there will also be a large outdoor seating area.
