Cranberries are for Christmas – try these five festive saucy treats

30 November 2019

CRANBERRY sauce. It owes its high profile to Thanksgiving dinners but is now number one buddy for our own Christmas turkey. But you don’t have to wait until Santa’s delivered down the flue to indulge in this festive fruit. Here are five delicious takes around town. A tip – wash them down with something stronger than cranberry juice.

Pie Hard at Crazy Pedro’s The crazy folk’s annual Yuletide special returns – this year as ‘Pie Hard’ in homage to one of the most iconic Christmas films. ‘As Detective McClane lands in LA to spend Christmas with his wife, he learns of hostage situation in an office building…and you know how it goes,’ says the Pedro blurb. They all order pizza? With a topping made up of custard, mozzarella cheese, mince pie, whiskey cream and…lights, action, cranberry sauce.

Crazy Pedro's Part Time Pizza Parlour, 55–57 Bridge St, Manchester M3 3BQ. 0161 359 3000 and Crazy Pedro's NQ, Short Street, off Tib Street, M1 1JG. Open 4pm-4am. All 16 inch pizzas £16 each, £3 a slice or £5 for two. Pie Hard is available by the full pizza or the slice.

Christmas Burger from Honest Living up to the quality of Honest Burger’s regular offering, this festive beaut features Honest beef, smoked bacon, deep-fried camembert, cranberry sauce and rocket with rosemary salted chips, and costs £12.50.

Honest Burgers, 36 Bridge Street, Manchester M3 3BT. 0161 359 4039.

The Hawksmoor Christmas Burger We love the steak champions’ standard £13.50 burger offering but this equally delicious variant goes down the turkey route. It’s a combination of buttermilk turkey thighs, Tamworth pork sausage patty, crispy bacon, sprout tops, Ogleshield cheese, turkey gravy, home-made ketchup made from cranberry.

Hawksmoor Manchester, 184-186 Deansgate, M3 3WB. 0161 836 6980.

Northern Soul Toasted Crimbo Cheese Sandwich The grilled cheese specialists, who’ve recently opened a new outlet in Tib Street, re hosting pop-up on Albert Square to bring their cholesterol-enhanced Crimbo special to the revellers. It consists of thick slices of roast turkey, with stuffing, doused in gravy and cranberry sauce. To top it off there’s a pig in blanket round pinned to the top. It costs £7.

Northern Soul, Albert Square, Manchester, M2 5PF.

Eat NY Turkey Reuben Bagel Having quit their NQ premises, the now nomadic EatNewYork closed earlier this year are running one of the go-to stalls on the Christmas Markets. Pick of the treats on offer, at £10, is definitely this monster bagel, stuffed with turkey, pastrami, sauerkraut, pork stuffing patty, roast potato, Russian dressing and cranberry

Eat NY, New Cathedral Street, Manchester, M3 1BD.
