Dim the lights, dim the sum – it’s mega movie mealtime!

AMERICAN Pie meets Dim Sum at Tattu this Bank Holiday Monday (August 26) as the strange love affair between food and film continues to bond in the city.

The contemporary Chinese restaurant in Spinningfields is no stranger to movie screenings, but we do think their feelgood Bank Holiday threesome is the best yet.

Screening times on Monday, August 26, are Grease (1pm), Dirty Dancing (4pm) and American Pie (7pm). Of course, you could just dust off some old DVDs at home and order

a takeaway but you’d be missing out on the essential co-star, Tattu’s benchmark dim sum.

And you’re not going to conjure up your own Skullcandy cocktail and get all convivial. For a tenner this Tattu signature drink is a star in its own right, featuring vodka, bubblegum and strawberry and that famous smoking skull.

Settle into Tattu’s private dining room and enjoy a three-course feast featuring a selection of dishes from the summer à la carte menu, as well as the new Asian Pear Sticky Toffee Pudding dessert, accompanied by a welcome cocktail, priced at £40 per person. Tickets are priced £40 per person and must be booked in advance. Call 0161 819 2060 to book.

Dirty Dancing sure is doing the rounds. It was screened on August 16 at Chapeltown Picture House in Capital Centric’s Crusader Mill on Chapeltown Street. A big plus at this tiny cinema devoted to showing classic films every weekend is you get to taste some modern classic beers from Squawk, who have an adjacent tap.

The Greatest Showman (2017) hardly counts as a classic movie  yet but it is hugely popular. Hence Hatch’s decision to  base their Bank Holiday Sunday circus-themed revels around it. Oxford Road’s street-food box park is set to transform into a big top circus from 1pm, featuring a ringmaster, face painting, and assorted pop-ups including a cheesecake decorating station. But the big draw is a screening of the Hugh Jackman film, including singalong, Deckchairs are available to hire from £10 to guarantee a view, but otherwise it’s free and who needs popcorn? There’s a fabulous selection of food and drink at Hatch

We particularly recommend family-run The Kitchen, inspired by the culinary capital of Greece, Thessaloniki and Anna Turton’s vin-yard wine bar + shop, which offers an eclectic mix of wines – vegan, organic, natural and biodynamic – to drink in or take away.
