Fire-ravaged Ivy reopens after just 24 hours with the promise of a party

6 January 2019 by Neil Sowerby

PHOENIX rising from the ashes is perhaps a little strong since the spectacular blaze at The Ivy was confined to one section of the Roof Garden. Still it’s rather amazing that the most glamorous recent addition to the Manchester dining scene was up and running again within 24 hours.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service was called to the city centre restaurant just before 5pm on Friday. By Stairday evening service was fully operational in the Brasserie and Ivy Asia restaurant at the Spinningfields celeb haunt, which only opened in November. Only the damaged terrace (below) remains closed, probably until the end of the February when repairs are finished.

The Ivy have issued this statement: “Thank you for all your kind messages of support regarding yesterday’s unfortunate fire at The Ivy Spinningfields. The fire was contained in one section of The Roof Garden thanks to the excellent work of the Greater Manchester Fire Services. who have informed us that the building is now totally safe to occupy.

“Whilst work starts to refurb and repair any damage done to The Roof Garden the ground floor Ivy Brasserie and Ivy Asia on the second floor are completely unaffected by the fire and will continue to operate as usual.

“All reservations will be honoured, we are planning to reopen The Roof Garden on the top floor towards the end of February and will of course notify everyone as soon as the date is 'solid'.

“As a thank you for the very warm welcome that Manchester has given us since we opened on November 27 are planning a SUPER PARTY on Friday, April 27 encompassing the entire building and outside areas. Please put your names on the list by emailing [email protected]
