First Look at Burger and Lobster

11 August 2015

IT seems appropriate that King Street’s latest restaurant should arrive the week veteran actor George Cole passed away. His best known line as Arthur Daley in TV’s Minder was: “Don't you worry, my son, from now on the world is your lobster.”

Pass through the portals of Ship Canal House into the huge, expensively fitted out 240-cover Burger and Lobster and you realise that here you can also share your world with a burger, fries, cheese mac and a few puddings – if a crustacean is not your bag.

And say you have scruples about live lobsters being despatched for your dinner, look away as they wave at you from the tank on the right of the entrance. They’ve come all he way from Nova Scotia, so they may feel a little disoriented. As may you...

This another mega opening, 18 months in the making. Not until Room reopens across the road in spring, will we see a fresh rival on this patch, which includes spectacular interiors such as Rosso and Jamie’s. There’s no written menu; your server gives you the lowdown, then and hands you a cute bib. Order a whole lobster, 10oz burger or lobster roll, all with chips and a little salad pot for £20. The lobster is obviously more of a bargain than the burger then.

Is B&L’s food  any good, though? Taste of Manchester will be reviewing soon.

Meanwhile, some interiors and shots of burgers and lobsters – what else?
