13 February 2024 by Rhiannon Ingle

It is finally Shrove Tuesday and there's a bunch of places in and around Manchester serving up some flippin' good pancakes for the occasion.

Head to The Smithfield Social this morning to get your hands on some cracking pancakes that will cost you absolutely nothing. This Northern Quarter stalwart will be offering any pancake lovers out there a choice between the OG classic lemon and sugar pancakes for free or pick from three other flavours including matcha, strawberry and maple syrup or Nutella for just £1. But, you'll want to be quick as the deal is only going from 9 am - 12 pm.

If you're after something a little different then why not get yourself over to Pho to celebrate the occasion Vietnamese style. Their classic Vietnamese pancake, called banh xeo, is a savoury and cripsy little slice of perfection. Perfect for vegans and gluten free diners, banh xeo are made with a thin layer of rice flour, water and turmeric before being fried up in a pan and filled with either tofu, chicken or prawns and served with fresh Vietnamese herbs and a salty dipping sauce (nuoc cham).

For anyone craving an absolutely sensational stack, look no further than The Shack serving bottomless pancakes for just £15 per person. The mouth-watering buttermilk pancakes can be topped off with a whole smattering of toppings including your choice of soft scoop with crushed flake, 100s & 1000s and strawberry syrup; smooth peanut butter, M&Ms, cream and chocolate sauce; or vegan cream and crushed Oreos with chocolate sauce.

Promising a proper good brekkie, The Koffee Pot have also jumped on the American-style pancake trend serving up the fluffy goodness with fry-up favourites including sausage, streaky bacon, fried egg and hash brown with the whole thing doused in a healthy dose of maple syrup. But, do not fret if you're plant-based as this spot will also be serving up vegan pancakes served alongside a Moving Mountains brunch burger, cheesy and bacon, tofu scramble, potato rosti and maple syrup.
