Grimm but jolly – Fairytale Seven Days of Christmas at Albert’s Schloss

22 November 2017 by Neil Sowerby

THOSE folk at Albert’s Schloss sure know how to throw a party. To get there you might not have been swept on a sled through snow-heavy pine forests with wolves howling in the moonlight (best to turn left off Deansgate up Peter Street), but the faux-Bohemian destination never fails as a winter warmer.

They’ve gone the whole hog (or Schwein) this year, curating a cabaret festival with all the trimmings called Wintermärchen. The word means a Grimm Brothers style dark winter fairy tale – or colloquially describing the perfect winter’s day.

The theme has given the Albert’s Schloss entertainment team the perfect excuse to slap on the make-up and the outrageous costumes. Expect duelling pianos and burlesque debauchery seven days a week with lush seasonal cocktails to match. Seven days a week.

Mondays it’s Jenna & The G’s Takeover; Tuesdays Kunst Kabaret,; Wednesdays Baby Grand Slam, one stage, two grand pianos and endless requests; Thursdays touring bands performing live, setting the stage for the weekend. Fridays it’s Freitag, featuring the legendary Haus band and resident entertainers. Haus Boheme turns up the Christmas heat on Saturdays, while Sunday Service gives you the spectacular Cook Haus Roasts and Alpine inspired winter menus, roaring fires, live Motown choirs, DJ Paulette and Will Tramp providing a diverse soundtrack.

Foodwise check out the special Wintermärchen smorgasbords (£20 to share) or book a £35 three course Christmas feast (menus here
