GRUB launching new street food and live music venue under an arch (naturally)

3 October 2017 by Neil Sowerby

YOU can understand why GRUB is on the shortlist for ‘Best Pop Up, Event or Project of the Year’ in the 2017 Manchester Food and Drink Awards, results to be announced next Monday (October 9). These canny street food event organisers have had a breathless year culminating in their hosting the British Street Food Awards at their Mayfield Depot pop-up base (above).

Their hugely popular Friday and Saturday Food Fairs at the iconic building near Piccadilly Station were soon joined by Plant Powered Sundays at the Baring Street container yard site. Now they have announced that all three events will move to their new permanent events space and live music venue Fairfield Social club at Arch No 6 in Temperance Street.

Starting Friday, October 27, GRUB will be gaining a roof over their head and looking to provide a space for supporting Manchester’s music scene. GRUB co-founder Jason Bailey told ToM the new site, which they have previously used for a pop-up event (above), is still part of the Mayfield development; the plan is to be back in the container yard next summer. Meanwhile, there's a non-GRUB proposal on the cards for the space over winter there.

The GRUB move is just a case of ensuring ‘the show goes on’ in the teeth of Manchester winter weather. The long abandoned railway arches will be utilised primarily for music events but also watch out for regular cinema and comedy nights alongside more sit down food and drink affairs.

Jules Morris, director of GRUB said: “It’s always been our plan to take our approach to food and use it to build an amazing events space, we’ve now found the perfect spot and have a super talented team to make that happen. Just like with GRUB we’ll be starting small but we believe we can build it in to something truly special for Manchester”

‘Grub Food Fair At Fairfield Social Club’ takes place every Friday and Saturday 12pm-10pm starting Oct 27.  ‘Plant Powered Sundays’ wil be every every Sunday 12pm-8pm starting SOct 30. Free, children and dogs welcome. Full details of the re-launch on the Facebook event page here
