NOW Scotland is tilting its tammie at independence once again ToM feels it might risk resuscitating that old Glasgow tea-time joke: “is that a cake or a meringue? You’re nae wrang, that’s a cake.”
Which brings us to the seasonal centrepiece of The Lowry Hotel’s luxury Christmas afternoon tea offering. Alongside the chestnut macarons and a cranberry and clementine cupcake with a pine frosting there’s a wee white treat – a meringue in the shape of a snowman.
Personally we’re keen on a bit of crust but if you are of a more delicate persuasion this tea is for you – offering trimmed sarnies featuring roast turkey and apricot stuffing, smoked salmon and watercress, Burford Brown egg and cucumber and a Provolone with sweet vine tomato chutney.
Enjoy this afternoon feast in the newly refurb-ed River Restaurant and we insist you go for the premium option of champagne or G&T (it is Christmas after all).
The menu is available 12pm-4pm Monday to Friday, 12.30pm-4pm Saturdays and 3.15pm-5pm Sundays, and costs £24 per person for a traditional afternoon tea or £33 for the two alcoholic versions.
