Hop down to the Oast House – the bar has reopened

3 May 2018 by Neil Sowerby

THE Oast House is back in action in time for the May Bank Holiday weekend. Not fully operational – the courtyard is still under wraps until the end of the month and the new kitchen/rotisserie is still a work in progress – but they are serving drinks.

ToM couldn’t resist two-for-one cocktail offer when we dropped in to check if the refurb had ditched the place’s rustic chic look. It hasn’t. The new wood-panelled bar and country-style tables and chairs are a perfect fit.

The pub, a Kentish hop house built from reclaimed Irish timber, opened in 2011 as a pop-up with an intended shelf life of just two years and went on to become a permanent fixture. It closed at the end of 2017 for major restructuring work, which has created a new floor, bar, toilets and kitchen.

Due to reopen on My 18, the kitchen will feature a new rotisserie oven to provide the Oast House’s signature hanging kebabs and the entire drinks offering has had its own revamp. The courtyard, expected to reopen for the late May bank holiday weekend, will be completely transformed. There’ll be two new outdoor bars with their own toilets, a wooden canopy with heaters and a fire pit plus a stage named after the bar's founder, the late Tim Bacon.

Currently the Oast House can only be accessed from opposite Flannels. To tempt punters in there are special offers, Monday to Friday, until My 25. Deals include two-for-one house and spritz cocktails, selected draught pints for £4 and bottles of house prosecco for £20.

An even tastier deal is the venue’s relaunch competition tied in with their fresh Budvar tank beer offering. Check into the Oast House Facebook page during May for a chance in a trip for two to the Czech Republic, including a visit to the legendary brewery.
