Idle Hands offers the devil of a good cup of coffee for rail commuters

TASTE of Manchester loves supporting individual independent ventures, so we will be supporting Idle Hands – even at the risk of twitchy caffeine overload!

This coffee pop-up on Piccadilly Staion Approach is the brainchild of Dave Wolinski and Tom Cowcher, both formerly of North Tea Power, who run it with the help of Dave’s girlfriend, Lucy. The space was previously occupied for three weeks by Hunt and Darton, peripatetic coffee purveyors offering an interactive performance space and social and artistic hub.

At Idle Hands, excellent coffee and some well-priced quality snacks (granola, crumpets and bacon and avocado butties using @trovebakery sourdough) are the focused deal. They plan to be there initially for six months as they seek to establish themselves as a real coffee contender in the city.

The initial impulse was to pop into fellow newcomer the Piccadilly Tap craft beer bar next door, but the aromas of their single-origin filter coffee and espresso-based drinks lured us over the threshold. Such a welcome alternative to the drab chains that circle the mainline terminus.
