Igloos, teepees, Alpine Hütte and alternative Christmas markets

CHRISTMAS Markets – you can’t move for them. The Makers Market returns to Chorlton this Saturday (November 18), with a 70 strong trader line-up giving punters the chance to get in some early Christmas shopping.

It runs from 10am-4pm , outside Chorlton Library, Co-op Funeral Care and in the grounds of Oswald Road Primary School.

Festively there will plenty of sweet treats on offer, brownies, cakes, chocolate, cheesecake and more plus savoury street food fromIn The Dog Haus and Wallace and Sons.

Looking ahead, Stockport Christmas Makers Market is scheduled for Saturday, December 9 (10am-4pm), in the Market Place, where you can expect the likes ofIn The Dog Haus bratwursts, Urban Crust’s wood-fired pizza and Cypriot Kitchen’s chicken kebabs.

Meanwhile, in the city centre a special Christmas edition of The Makers Market is operating in Spinningfields Square and The Avenue from Thursday to Sunday each week,  in the build-up to Christmas (11am-7pm, closes December 17).

Now seen as Manchester’s alternative Christmas Market, the work of Manchester’s finest bakers, food producers, creators, designers and collectors will be showcased between 11am and 7pm.

Spinningfields also offers plenty of pop-up outlets for festive cheer. In the shadow of the city’s biggest tree the Alpine style pre-bookable Bar Hütte are back for a third year with signature carol-oke machines, festive lights, rustic wooden décor and a dedicated host to serve hot and cold refreshments. Outside The Refinery on Hardman Boulevard from November 23 you’ll find a couple of Igloos (pictured), also pre-bookable now and accommodating 8-10 folk. A huge hit in London for operators Drake and Morgan, they’re partnered with Copper Dog whisky, who provide a sip and snack menu.

Alternatively, the long-serving Curious Teepee offers fire pits, fur throws, festive fairy lights and warming drinks in the courtyard of The Oast House.
