Kate Goodman on her wine and food festival with a difference

13 June 2018 by Neil Sowerby

TRUST Reserve to serve up an event that goes way beyond your average wine event. The Burton Road merchants have traditionally held annual tastings at Didsbury Lawn Tennis Club but their recent residencies at Altrincham Market House and Mackie Mayor have turned them in a different direction, it seems.

Hence they have cherry-picked three of the best street food traders for their Wine & Food Festival on Friday, June 22 at Fairfield Social Club, managed by local street food event moguls GRUB.

The redoubtable Yakumama will provide Latin American treats, Altrincham regulars Little Orange Co their take on Sicilian arancini (parmesan and mascarpone with pea purée and lemon paprika aioli pictured) and ChouChoux delectable desserts.

Reserve founder Kate Goodman, whose profile was raised by her stint as wine guru on BBC TV’s Food & Drink programme, tells us: “It’s always been about making wine fun and accessible and this type of event totally fits in with what we are trying to demonstrate. There are too many preconceptions and traditionalism surrounding wine and we think Manchester is ready to see past these and join in the fun.”

It goes without saying that the West Didsbury merchants will be sourcing over 100  amazing wines to accompany this food. They’ve name checked Avondale Wines from Sout Africa and Nierpoort from Portugal. Plus there’ll be wine masterclasses, gins, English whisky and, naturally, craft beer along with entertainment.

Reserve Wine & Food Festival, June 22, 5pm-10.30pm. Fairfield Social Club, Archway 6 Temperance Street, Manchester M12 6HR.  £7 plus booking fee. Book here. A token system will be used to redeem drinks, just like in a beer festival. The food traders will charge separately.
