Koffee Pot hosts groundbreaking chef Ernst van Zyl

8 February 2017 by Neil Sowerby

THERE’S a rare opportunity to taste the innovative cooking of Ernst van Zyl in Manchester city centre. The acclaimed South African chef, once of Etrop Grange, normally plies his trade out in Cheshire at his pubs, The Lord Clyde (Kerridge) and the Hanging Gate (Sutton).

But Inca Pop-ups have lured him to the Koffee Pot for one night only (Monday, February 27) to cook a four course dinner that has ToM salivating. It starts with treacle-cured Danebridge trout, salsify, pineapple and soy sauce, followed by purple sprouting broccoli, shallot, hazelnut and creme fraiche, then a main of duck breast, salt-baked celeriac, polenta and blood orange with rhubarb and beetroot to conclude.

The price is £37.50 but that’s good value to sample food that always promises to push back the boundaries. Rare in the city centre these days.

Koffee Pot, 84-86 Oldham St, Manchester M4 1LE. 0161 236 8918. Monday, February 27. Meal starts 7pm. Licensed bar. To book contact Claire at 07881 787744.
