Launching on February 13, Evuna’s tentacles extend to Altrincham

11 February 2019 by Neil Sowerby

ALTRINCHAM, already blessed with thriving foodie scene, welcomes a new arrival this Wednesday (February 13) – the latest branch of Spanish indie stalwart Evuna.

Their new venue is in the former Yorkshire bank at 84-86 Stamford New Road (u til recently EAT:kaizen restaurant) and differs from the existing trio – Deansgate, Northern Quarter and Knutsford – in showcasing a tapas bar seating 24 diners alongside an open kitchen.

“In the true nature of Tapas we are excited to introduce more informal dining in the way of Tapas bars in the windows of this beautiful building,” Evuna director Jane Dowler tells us.

The restaurant itself has an additional formal dining area seating 45 covers and can cater for groups and corporate events. Private hire is available plus group menus and wine tastings.

Wine remains a key element in the Evuna operation, which started off life as a direct wine importing business 15 years ago. You won’t find their Spanish wine list anywhere else.

The tapas menu is more immediately recognisable through staples such as albondigas, bravas, calamares and (pictured above) pulpo a feira (octopus with paprika) while adopting a monthly focus of regional specials, using modern fusion techniques.

The Altrincham chef will be Luis Diaz Avila, who trained at the prestigious National Kitchen School in Santander and has worked for the legendary Ferran Adria of El Bulli fame..

Great quote from Pedro: “Cooking for me is how we bond, it is the place where all the family come together everyone loves to eat and socialise, and there is always something new to be learnt each day”

Each month customers can explore by the glass wine from rotating regions such as Catalunya, Galicia, Rioja or Navarra. February’s focus is Extremadura and its rising star Bodegas Habla
