Loitering within tent? Yes, the Curious Teepee Is the the place to be this Christmas

4 December 2014

IT’S hard to believe now the Oast House in Spinningfields was originally meant to be a pop-up – albeit an expensively imported one. Nowadays it is part of the pub fabric of the city. With, as Christmas approaches, its own temporary shelter for the terminally convivial. Welcome back to the Curious Teepee.

It even serves up its own festive menu, available weekday lunchtimes and Monday

and Tuesday evenings in December. The Turkey Roast costs £22.50 a head, begins with a fresh loaf with a choice of beef dripping or olive oil and balsamic as dips, is followed by rotisserie turkey off the rotisserie, with cranberry, sage and onion stuffing, gravy, roasted potatoes, sprouts, carrots and parsnips. For afters, there’s a choice of spiced apple turnover with custard, or traditional Christmas pud.

Veggies get baked four-bean cassoulet, aged Cheddar and parsley crumble. There’s no discrimination with drinks. Like the meat-eaters they are wecolmed with complimentary Dublin Porter (old Guinness Brewery recipes reinterpreted) or winter-spice cider before their meal. On Thursday and Friday evenings there’s alternatively a Hog Roast (£26.50).

Of course, it’s just nice to step in out of the cold and toast your toes round the Teepee’s roaring fire pit. There’s live music every night and a singalong Thursdays from 9pm.
