Lowdown on this weekend's Northern Vegan Festival

THE Northern Vegan Festival is back next Saturday (April 23) at its usual Northern Quarter haunts, centred around Sacha’s Hotel (Tib Street M4 1SH).

This year at Sacha’s there will be 95 stalls, including a cafe area in the USA Suite on the ground floor and 20 more stalls upstairs in the Roosevelt and Jefferson Rooms including a raw food fair and a five stall vegan organic farmer’s market (conventional organic agriculture uses bone meal, animal blood, and ground up fish as fertiliser). There will aALSO be a small free food fair in the Kennedy Room and talks in the Cromptons Bar downstairs. 

Venue 2 is the Methodist Church Central Hall,  (Oldham Street M1 1JQ), featuring 81 stalls on the first floor, talks,  films and cookery demos in the Lounge and yoga in Room 21 on the second floor.

Venue 3 is the back room of the Castle Hotel (66 Oldham Street, M4 1LE), where there will be vegan dog food tasting (dogs are allowed) from 12noon-6pm with Europe's largest seller of vegan pet food Veggie Pets http://www.veggiepets.com/ and in the evening live music from vegan musicians Sally Crosby and Killer's Riches (Kye Oram).

Venue 4 is the upstairs room of Gullivers (109, Oldham Street, M4 1LW), where there will be vegan cat food tasting from 12noon-6pm with Veggie Pets (samples are take away only, cats will not be allowed inside the venue due to the trauma of travel) and in the evening live music from vegan musicians Gareth Evans, Birds and the Beasts, Sarah de Warren and Meredith Baker.

Venue 5 is 15 minutes walk away, the Thirsty Scholar vegetarian/vegan pub (50 New Wakefield Street, M1 5NP) where there will be a vegan beer, wine and cider festival.
