Manchester House and El Gato Negro star at National Restaurant Awards

THE Northern culinary powerhouse made a major mark on this year’s prestigious National Restaurant Awards, announced at a London dinner last night (June 27).

Aiden Byrne’s Manchester House leapt into the Top 50 from 98th last year to 50, joining Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume in Cartmel at No 8 and Northcote at No.36. Simon Rogan at The French was up to 79th place from 93 in 2015.

There was also a sensational first entry for Manchester newcomer El Gato Negro (below) on King Street, straight in at No.81.

Lancashire gastropub The Parker’s Arms was No.88, Gary Usher’s Sticky Walnut in Chester No.74 and Michael O'Hare's Man Behind The Curtain in Leeds No.27, while Lake Road Kitchen in Ambleside rose 65 places to No.15.

The Sportsman’s Arms near Whitstable in Kent, was voted the UK’s top restaurant by the Restaurant Magazine's panel of industry experts.
