Mr Cooper’s relaunches as Mount Street Dining Room & Bar

19 February 2020 by Neil Sowerby

THE restaurant formerly known as Mr Cooper’s House & Garden at The Midland Hotel will relaunch this April with a new name, look (cgi image above) and offering – Mount Street Dining Room & Bar. Expect a ‘modern take on British classics’ and all-day dining, familiar refrains, we know, but both the in-house Bailey’s smoker and in-house butchery remain integral as does a commitment to Northern produce.

On our last visit to Mr Cooper’s before it closed in January for a total refurb as part of a £14m overhaul of the hotel we were impressed by the cooking of young head chef Rebecca Richardson. She will take over the reins again to champion the new menu created by Midland exec head chef Brian Spark.

This is now more extensive, accommodating seven days a week dining from early morning to late evening. Snacks, business lunches, cocktails, three-course dinners, all bases will be covered. Your weekend family roast requirements? Choose from a whole roast Piper’s Farm chicken or a whole roast pork belly.

With this focus on all day dining, the menu is split into seven sections, offering a snack menu, starters, mains and grills, pies, sides and desserts. In addition to the a la carte menu, there are a number of set menus, including a lunch menu and an early evening menu. All the menus include a selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes.

Signature dishes on the menu include Bury black pudding with roast Tatton Park apples, beef Wellington, Chateaubriand and surf and turf.

Encouragingly the wine list will have a strong focus on English producers while the beer menu will feature a largely Northern contingent, with the likes of Cloudwater, Alphabet and Track all included. The cocktail menu is split into four sections; Today’s Classics, Craft Shandies, Punch and What We’re Mixing.

Jason Carruthers, MD of Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland, said: “We’re really looking forward to unveiling Mount Street Dining Room and Bar and think it’s going to be a great addition to the city.

“While Mr Cooper’s was more of a dinner-orientated destination, we believe Mount Street has all day appeal and we’re excited to be embarking on this new chapter at the hotel.”
