Mull this over – a gorgeous hot gin tipple to ward off the winter chill

BOTANICAL overload! As if ToM hadn’t had enough gin at Alston Bar & Beef (4 star review), we only had to stagger 50 yards into Cathedral Gardens to be ensnared by the winter warmer charms of George & Shellys Mulled Gin

It’s part of a Christmas Market stall line-up that includes Spiced Rum and Tea-Quilla plus as festive ballast hot turkey brioche buns. The Mulled Gin is the star, though, beating spots out of the ubiquitous Gluhwein. It was created by created by Michelle Partington and George Jackson at last year’s event, originally playing second fiddle to their pie operation. Since when it has been a big hit across the region, culminating going onto the shelves at Booths supermarkets – £16 will get you a festively labelled 50cl bottle of this nectar.

Its basically a seasonally spiced (think cinnamon and cloves) London gin with specially selected apple juice. It is a deceptively easy to swallow tipple, but is 15 per cent, so wussies can dilute it with further apple juice. Whatever, just warm it up at home in pan and serve with a cinnamon stick and diced apple and soon you’ll be singing carols.
