New Knutsford Evuna gives us a foretaste of Mallorca Month

2 October 2017

TASTE of Manchester couldn’t resist a lunch trip over to the gorgeous new Evuna in Knutsford. We just wished the rail service was more than hourly; still, missing our planned train gave us the chance to sample an extra wine or two from the Spanish specialist’s exemplary list.

A stand-out wine was from Mallorca’s Miquel Oliver winery – a blend of three indigenous island grapes called Mont Ferrutx. It was a perfect match for a Galician sirloin steak sourced from 10-year-old cattle, dry-aged for over 30 days and grilled in the Josper charcoal oven.

An Abando Blanco oak-fermented Rioja was an equally fine pairing with pan-fried hake  in a red wine sauce.

The red was a foretaste of fine drinking to come in October when all three Evunas (Knutsford, NQ and Deansgate) are celebrating all Oliver wines. Knutsford, situated across three floors of a mock-Tudor building, would be a perfect place to sample them all.

Like its Manchester counterparts, this branch will be hosting regular wine tasting sessions and also offering a changing monthly wine focus from regions such as Catalunya, Galicia, Rioja or Navarra. These are offered alongside monthly specials, created by Evuna’s Spanish chefs, which are based on authentic dishes from that region.
