Picture this – movies and a Squawk taproom at the top of a Piccadilly mill

QUITE a climb but we ToM diehards love trekking up the Crusader Mill stairs to the third floor Track brewtap (above) and it’s not just for the craft beer. There’s also a table tennis table.

Now comes news that if you step up to the loft space floor above there’s going to be a beer/entertainment alternative in this historic Grade II-listed building being developed into apartments by Capital & Centric.

On Friday, July 5, those enterprising street food operators GRUB are launching Chapeltown Picture House to be run in tandem with a new taproom for Track’s friendly Piccadilly Beer Mile rivals Squawk.

The 63-seater pop-up cinema features a 4k projector along with a 5.1 surround sound system. We’re not sure if there’s popcorn too but, knowing GRUB it would have to be a superior artisan version (ps: you are not allowed to bring in food). Alongside classic films the screen is also available for video gaming.

Across the launch weekend all screenings will be half price. So what do you get for your £2.50 a head? Independence Day (1996), Armageddon (1998) and Terminator 2 (1991) and many more. Full programme here.

GRUB director Jason Bailey told us: "We’re incredibly excited to be bringing a new cinema space to Manchester showing some fantastic films. It’s  a bonus that you can have a great beer and play video games.”

Squawk's brewery is only a mile away, so expect the freshest beer from their six lines.

Chapeltown Picture House, Crusader Mill, 64 Chapeltown Street, Manchester, M1 2WQ. Cards only. Unless the screening is marked as ‘child friendly’ then all events are strictly 18+.
