IT’S finally here – Pita Pit Deansgate. Just before the junction with St Mary’s Gate, a perfect consumer-friendly position to spread the word about this health-conscious fast food option, which has already been a huge popular success in its original Manchester site at Piccadilly Place.
Taste of Manchester joined the queue at the ‘soft launch’ prior to its official opening (behind schedule but worth the wait) on Thursday, March 12. Our choice? An old favourite, the spicy chicken original for just £4.95, in a springy white flatbread envelope with houmous, tomatoes, salad and pickled gherkins, toasted just for a change.
In a world of fast food that can pile on the hidden, unhealthy extras it is refreshing to tap into an international chain whose motto is ‘Fresh Thinking and Healthy Eating'. Hence grilled-to-order pita wraps that are low in salt, carbohydrates and calories.
The fact that all orders come in a sustainable catering package complete with napkins, plates and utensils that are all fully compostable, again demonstrates the company’s ethical concerns.
All this would count for little if Pita Pit’s products weren’t so damned tasty with a refreshing range of meat-free (and in some cases dairy-free) options, making in the perfect pit-stop for vegetarians and vegans. TOM particularly recommends the houmous with ixed leaf, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, cucumbers and balsamic dressing.
