Ply fires up its Neapolitan Disco Ball Oven In a New creative space for the Northern Quarter

20 March 2015

PLY, Stevenson Square’s hotly anticipated new bar, restaurant and creative space, has fired up its mirror ball pizza oven and will open its doors this month with launch events planned for March 25, 26 and 27.

A bright new venue for drinking, eating, meeting and socialising – from the minds behind the award-winning neighbourhood hangout, Kosmonaut – PLY features a book exchange, doodle wall and will host monthly exhibitions by international artists.

The magnet for Taste of Manchester, though, is the bespoke wood-fired disco ball oven, imported directly from Naples, which heats to 600C and can bake Neapolitan pizzas in 90 seconds flat.

There’s an early chance to taste this Friday, March 20, when from 12:30pm PLY are giving away FREE wood fired pizzas to the first 100 people that make it to the door!  Visit @PLYMCR or Facebook.com/PLYMCR to find out more about it.

The regular food offering, pizza range aside, will feature  a selection of antipasti and and ethically sourced charcuterie.

PLY’s 5,500 sq ft space features locally sourced bespoke fittings including benches and lightboxes from Islington Mill’s Workroom Industries, interior styling and branding by PLY’s creative partner, Instruct Studio, alongside permanent artwork by artist, Layla Sailor.

As part of the networking aim, there’s a tailor-made book exchange, where punters can sit and read for as long as the like plus a large-scale doodle wall will be refreshed every six weeks.

PLY was previewed in 2014 at the #PLYin90seconds exhibition, which featured seven internationally renowned creatives who each created a 90 second pizza themed film via their own artistic medium. Their work will drive the bar’s 2015 exhibition programme, with details to be released soon.
