Sizzling, swigging summer! GRUB to host big burger and beer bonanzas

22 June 2019 by Neil Sowerby

HYPERACTIVE Street Food Operation Of The Year? If there was such a prize we’d give it to GRUB. It only seems minutes ago we were reporting on their movies meets Squawk beer pop-up at Crusader Mill – Chapeltown Picture House. Now we are preparing for two separate festivals showcasing Burgers and Beer.

First up is Grub Burger Special, their second ever themed festival. Starting on Friday, June 28 and running through until Sunday 30th, the Mayfield Gatehouse will host over eight different vendors bringing their individual takes on patties on a bun. None quite as leftfield (not the first time from Bakerorama’s Charlotte O’Toole) as a special ‘cake burger’! There will also be a tap takeover from London’s Kernel, among the finest brewers in the land. And don’t worry, vegan burger lovers, as is usual the Sunday will be 100% plant powered.

The full food line-up, with more to be announced is What's Your Beef (Fri/Sat only), Nyama Choma, Wholesomejunkies, Guerrilla Guerrilla, The Little Fishy, Huns Vegan (Sun only) and Bakeorama.

Fri Jun 28-Sun Jun 30, Burger Food Fair, Grub, Mayfield Depot, Baring Street, M12 6HR, 12pm-10pm, Free, family and dog-friendly.

BEER UP HERE 2019

FAST forward a week and it’s the turn of GRUB’s Beer Up Here 2019 (Friday July 5-Sunday, July 7) in the indoor venue, Fairfield Social Club. This regular summer beer festival will feature 100 breweries and 200 beers from all over the north of the UK. From Buxton to Orkney, from Northern Ireland to Northumberland and from Yorkshire to Cumbria and plenty of Manchester beer.

The unstuffy formula remains the same – a fun event with a concentration on classic ‘session beers’, served mainly as pints. The breweries range from local modern craft beer heroes like Runaway Brewery or Track Brew co. alongside classic traditional family brewers such as Joseph Holts.

Tasty ballast? Check out the GF Pie Company serving up pie and peas and The Little Fishy frying up fish and chips all day. On top of all the beer and grub you’ll also be able to visit the Steep Soda Shandy Bar, serving up thirst quenching shandies made by combining their hand made sodas with local beer.

Jason Bailey, Director of GRUB said: “It's super important for us that our beer is produced locally, there's really no reason to go too far to find outstanding beer so we’re so happy to see The Beer Up Here back”.

The Beer Up Here kicks off Friday, July 5 at 3pm and runs until Sunday July 7 with four sessions over the three days. The event is ticketed and welcomes all comers including families and dogs. A number of tickets will be held on the door for walk-ups. Full details of the event, and to purchase tickets can be found on the ticket page here

Fairfield Social Club, Archway 6, Temperance St, M12 6HR.
