Small is beautiful for new Cheadle Hulme ale house

20 May 2015

MICRO pubs are all the rage at the moment. Find an old shop, do it up, add some pumps and away you go. None of the overheads of starting a full-scale pub from scratch and the freedom from PubCos and the like, so they can support local breweries that are equally micro. Small is cosy, too. The latest on the scene is The Chiverton Tap, housed in a former draper and milliner’s shop conveniently across from Cheadle Hulme Station.

Partners Bob and Mary Ellis and Andrew O’Shea are offering six handpumps dispensing the likes of Ticketybrew and Brightside, Tweed and Wilson Potter plus a keg range. It’s also got a house cider, a good wine choice, free wi-fi and won’t shoo your dog away.

The original proprietor was one Arthur Chilton, whose name stands proud on a mosaic at at the Tap’s entrance.
